Is it time to repaint?

is it time to repaint?

Well unfortunately we are going to start this conversation off with it really depends (we apologize for the ambiguity in advance).

It depends on many different factors but luckily for you we were able to boil them down into two categories. They are cosmetic and functional, let’s start with cosmetic.

Here are some examples of a cosmetic paint job:

  • Painting your homes interior walls
  • Painting your homes interior trim
  • Cabinet painting
  • Wallpaper removal

These are all examples of things you do not need to paint. The paint does not provide any significant protection to these surfaces and you home will still function if these surfaces go unpainted.

Now with this being said we often recommend re-painting your homes interior every 5 to 7 years to maintain your property value. This is because paint can become faded over time, walls and especially trim tend to take a beating. A fresh coat of paint is the best way to maintain and even update your homes interior which will preserve and potentially even increase your property value!

Here are some examples of things you have to paint, parts of a home that will deteriorate over time if not properly maintained and painted. Surfaces that will cause damaged and only worsen over time if they are not painted:

Any wooden surfaces on the exterior of your home that are not pressure treat must have some type of coating on them this can be:

  • Paint
  • Stain
  • Polyurethane
  • Varnish

Common areas on homes exteriors that need to be painted

  • wooden siding
  • wooden trim + facia board
  • shutters
  • decorative cornice that we see on the top of many row homes in Philadelphia
